It was one day when I went out to eat in late October that I noticed the gingko leaves had started falling at the shopping complex near my home. Although in my eyes Beijing is normally a gray and monotonous city, I suddenly realized how vibrant it looked during the autumn season. The most curious of all was how the
yellow of the gingko leaves complemented the ubiquitous yellow takeout uniforms parked outside the many stores.
This is the first and one of the only times I have really involved Photoshop in my post-editing process. I think that editing software can give us a lot of power, but I don’t want my photos to look interesting just because I’ve drastically edited it and added or changed a lot of elements. In this case, I’ve just used a selection tool to edit the saturation of elements in the photograph. While the connection between editing tools and artistic creation, and the role of apps in my photography style, continue to be ideas I consider, in this case, my intentions were simply to augment the interesting color combination I noticed to help the photos better capture my
perspective. In the end, I think that the surprising beauty lies in the sudden bursts of colours you might chance upon during a normal walk on a normal day.
